Too much fun

Why does Tall Tree Music Festival have to end?

High up on Browns Mountain near Port Renfrew along the west coast of Vancouver Island, the bands, organizers and volunteers put on a party for the ages.

To talk about the event without describing the natural setting would be an injustice. The sun shone the whole weekend, despite contrary weather reports leading up to the event. The main stage looked out over a wide vista that included low lying forested hills, rivers, and the Pacific ocean. At night the stars turned on like lights and it seemed like the whole night sky was wrapping itself around the stage on Browns Mountain.

The setting seemed to energize the bands who brought the heat all weekend. Whether it was noon or midnight you could find people dancing at the main-stage with a band or dj rockin every tune like it was their encore.

Everyone at the festival was incredibly chill. Many of the bands were camping where everyone else was, so you’d  see Vince Vacarro or Mike Edel walking along the path to their campsites after a show, throwing out some high fives. I was hitchhiking back from the beach on Saturday and got picked up by the band members from Jets Overhead, who kindly drove me back up to my campsite!

Kuba Oms had a unreal performance on the first night. Ending the set with his new single “Electrolove,” the crowd had swelled and there wasn’t a foot standing still. Taking over the reigns, Jets Overhead kept crowd groovin with the lingering vocals of lead singer Adam K.

There was so much good music its impossible to describe it all. On Saturday I thought Mindil Beach Markets had a standout performance. It was obvious they were having an awesome time on stage and the daytime crowd got pretty raucus. After just coming back from a tour in Australia, Vince Vacarro closed out the band portion of the festival with some of his classics like “Costa Rica” and “Heart and Hands.” In true Tall Tree fashion he had band members from Maurice and the Mike Edel band playing up there with him.

The whole festival was a real tribute to local artists as well as the ridiculous natural beauty of a place we are lucky to call home.

A big thanks to radio contact putting on one hell of a festival!

You and me gonna be at Tall Tree, Bring your smile and I’ll see you in while!

The exodus begins!

Apparently its going to be raining, which honestly I couldn’t be more happy about. Just gotta make the mental leap, pack some rain gear, and get ready for a wet and wild dance party! Its summer time so the rain will be nice and warm, natures bath.

Alright, its time to pack the rest of the food, load up the veggie-oil truck, check I’ve got the spare set of truck keys, and hit THA ROAD JACK!

See all you lovely Tall Tree-ers up there!

WeeeeeeeHOOOOOOO!

One More Day!

Well its one more day before we’re on top of a mountain, overlooking the ocean, and dancing up storm!

But before the fun can begin there is some serious questions we need to ask ourselves. Like:

Do I bring the thin camping therma-rest mats, or the massive, Costco special, queen size blowup mattresses?

Should I dress up? And if so, do I go with the full size gorilla costume or the eclectic “tickle trunk special” “anything goes” costume?

And of course,

Do I mission it down to the ocean on the Saturday for a nature bath, or do I double up on the Old-Spice, down some trail-mix, and get my ass back to the dance field.

These questions are clearly existential in nature, and there may be no real answers. But we still have a full day to let them marinate…so marinate on!

WeeeeeeeeHooooooooo!

Tall Tree Music Fest 2011

CFUV is heading back to Tall Tree this year!

After last years smashing success it really was a no-brainer. Hmmm lets see…the beautiful West Coast….wicked local artists like Jets Overhead and Vince Vacarro…and a crowd of people who wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Yep, it was a hard decision.

After scoping the Facebook page I noticed there is a call for costumes this year. Yes! I’m hoping to see some ridiculous stuff.

As the anticipation builds, I feel its appropriate to quote a post I saw on the Tall Tree Facebook site. And it goes as follows…(throat clear)…”WeeeeeeHoooooooooooo!”

I think that about sums it up.

CFUV’s David Geselbracht from Wild Orphans (1-2 Mondays) will be perusing the festival grounds interviewing bands and festival goers throughout the weekend.
